Vellanad Sree Bhagavathy Temple

History

The idol of Vellanattamma was once worshipped within a family home. This sacred idol within the temple carries with it a profound legend. In the year 1040 (Sakha Era), Amma appeared before a benevolent landlord, presenting an offering: "Now I reside in a family at Thiruvallom, a coastal village, orphaned and without adoration. If my idol is erected and consecrated in the temple at Vellanad, the place will experience ever-increasing prosperity." In accordance with her divine guidance, the idol found its home in Vellanad, bestowing peace and prosperity upon devoted worshippers. Severe punishments awaited atheists, while those from distant lands sought solace and blessings by worshipping more Vellanattamma. Year after year, millions of devotees gather to offer adoration, seeking the restoration of peace and order within their families. Vellanattamma harboured the intent to vanquish Daruka, the king of Evil, and it was a compassionate landlord who installed her divine idol within the sacred walls of this temple. In 1977, individuals from ten families collectively established the trust. By 1988, it had transformed into a public trust, solidifying the enduring sanctity of this revered place of worship. The pilgrimage to Vellanad Sree Bhagavathy Temple be a journey filled with divine grace and blessings, as devotees come together to celebrate the enduring spirit of faith, peace, and prosperity.
