The origin of this temple is connected with the
Thirichenthoor Sree Muruka temple at Thuthukkudy in Tamil Nadu. It is believed
that the idol that was in the temple was left in the sea after its power had
been invoked into a new idol. But this idol reached the shores of Kerala at
Panambukad in the Vyppin islands. A Pulaya woman sharpened her sickle on the
half immersed idol and saw blood sprouting out. The woman in a trance revealed
that the power in the idol ad not been completely removed and instructed that
the idol be installed at a suitable place . As
more
instructed by the power of the
idol, five arrows were shot and it was found that one of them could not be
pulled out. It was here at Elankunnapuzha that the idol was consecrated. The
idol of Lord Subrahmanya is six feet tall . The temple has attained fame as the
southern Palani as per the belief that it was the Lord Himself who found the
place for His own consecration. The temple is now under the Kochin Devaswom Board.
