This is one of the 108 Siva temples consecrated by Sage Parasurama in Kerala. It is believed that the Sivalinga idol consecrated here was brought from Chidambaram and consecrated facing the west by the sage. The management of the temple was carried out by a family closely related to the Kochin Royal family.
