Lord Subrahmanya is worshipped in the form of a serpent in this temple at the foot of the Kumaragiri. Sree Chinmayananda Swami, the world-famous spiritual leader consecrated Lord Subrahmanya at this place which has come to be known as Kerala Pazhani. In the Skanda Mahathmya, it is mentioned that Lord Subrahmanya left his form and wandered about in the hills and forests and hence came to Chocherikunnu. It is believed that Goddess Parvathy practised penance to get her son to be in the original form. At the end of her penance, Subrahmanya appeared before her as the serpent
more with all the other gods. When Maha Vishnu touched him, he got his original form back.
