Chandanakkavu Bhagavathy temple is the family temple of Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri who wrote Narayaneeyam, describing the life of Lord Krishna. Melpathur Bhattatjiripad is believed to have had his vedic education here which at that time was a famous Vedic centre. He used to visit the Chandanakkavu temple every day. Before he went to Guruvayoor to worship Guruvayoorappan to be relieved of the rheumatism that he had accepted from his master, he consecrated the idol of the Bhagavathy whom he worshipped at Chandanakkavu temple.
