Adinadu Sakthikulangara Temple

History

This temple is about 5km from Karunagappally in Kollam District. It is one of the major temples under the Travancore Devaswom board with five pujas performed every day. The legend about the temple speaks about the attack by Bhootharaayar. He attacked Kodumannangaatikkal and the people of that place took refuge under the King of Kayakulam. The King allowed them a territory for their stay named Akathoott. As this place was being ruled by the subordinate kings, some refugees from Kodumannangaatikkal came to Akathoott. Soon afterwords some unusual behaviour among the animals was noticed around the palace. On astrological consultation it was revealed that the Goddess who more had been worshipped by the people who came there had come to this place in search of her devotees. The rulers of Akathoott immediately took measures to consecrate the Devi in a separate sanctum in the Ayyankoikkal Sree Mahavishnu temple dedicated to their family deity. Later the goddess Bhadrakali was shifted to another temple which is today known as Adinadu Shakthikulangara Temple. For some time, the temple was looked after by five families. Later Goddess Durga was found to be present and the poojas were set for Durga Devi.
