The Puthukkulam Sree Nagaraja Temple, located in Vengalloor, is a unique shrine where Nagaraja, the serpent deity, holds the central place of worship. According to local belief, the creation of Kerala by Lord Parasurama involved throwing his axe into the ocean. However, the land he created was teeming with serpents, posing a challenge. In search of a solution, Lord Parasurama turned to Lord Parameshwara, who advised him that only Lord Ananthaswamy could resolve the issue. After engaging in rigorous penance, Lord Ananthaswamy appeared before Lord Parasurama and took control of the serpents, thus solving the problem.
