Neelamperoor Palli Bhagavathy Temple is situated approximately 14 kilometres away from Kottayam Railway Station, near SH1 Changanassery. Located in Neelamperoor, which is nestled within the picturesque Kuttanad region and surrounded by a network of canals, this temple boasts a history spanning 1700 years. Interestingly, the temple's origins are traced back to a Buddhist temple, which was subsequently transformed into a Hindu place of worship. Cheramanperumal, the Emperor of Kerala (250 - 300 AD), chose to lead a life as a Buddhist monk during his later years, and he spent his final days in Neelamperoor. It is widely believed that Cheramanperumal initially constructed the temple as a Buddha
more Vihara. Later on, the temple underwent a conversion and became dedicated to the Devi. The darshanam (sacred viewing) of Neelamperoor Palli Bhagavathy is oriented towards the north.
