Anthikad Sree Karthyayani Temple

History

Sri Karthyayani Temple is situated in Anthikad, in the Thrissur district of Kerala. This sacred temple is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga in her Karthyayani form and is among the 108 Durga temples found in the state of Kerala. The deity Bhagavathi Karthyayani is believed to be swayambhu, meaning self-manifested. It is also said that the idol in the temple was brought from the Mookambika temple. The temple actively participates in the Arattupuzha Pooram festival. The murti was once in the possession of the Navadara Illam, who served as the temple's poojaris. Historically, the temple was the family temple of Puliyanthara Ilayathu, Karipalli Nambiar, Kuruppamedu more Kuruppu, and Nallathu Kurup. The temple's antiquity is evident, as there is an inscription on the stone at the Mukha Mandapam mentioning a Kalasham ritual dating back to Kolla Varsham 734, indicating that the temple has been in existence for centuries.
