Kuthiranmala Sree Dharmasastha Temple

History

Kuthiranmala Sree Dharmasastha Temple at Vaniyampara is one of the ancient temples of Kerala. It is one of the Sastha temples on the four borders of the erstwhile Cochin State. It is situated about twenty kilometers east of Thrissur on the Thrissur-Palakkad route passing through Vaniyampara. The divine presence of Sree Dharmasastha at this spot was revealed to Mr.Krishnan, alias Ittaman of the Pattikkad Pambumkattil family. He built a small temple there and started offering poojas. As time passed the temple became popular and in the last twenty years it has registered phenomenal progress to attain the present status. This temple is today one among the very more few temples where Seeveli is held every day. The presiding deity is Sree Dharmasastha, as He is seated on a horse. Ganapathy, Saraswathy, Vishnu, Subramaniyan and Maalikapura- thamma are worshipped as Upadevathas. Five poojas are performed daily. Here is a Sive temple to the north of this where the deity is self-originated. Nagas are on the left side of the temple and Brahmarakshas and Pithrukkal (forefathers) are in front to the right. On the northern side of the road is the shrine of Kiratha Moorthy (Lord Siva and Sree Parvathy in the guise of hunters).
