Palliparambukavu Bhagavathy Temple

History

This temple is situated at Tripunithura in Ernakulam district. This temple had seen a time of deterioration but was brought back to its former glory by the interest taken by the Cochin royal family. This Goddess had been the deity worshipped by a prominent family of Tripunithura named Valanthuruthy Manaykkal Bhattathiris. They also held prominent position in the rituals performed at the Poornathrayeesha temple at Triunithura. This family built and consecrated the Goddess at Palliparambukavu. While this temple was on one side of the Mana, they built and consecrated the Goddess at Puthiyakavu also. As time passed the more mana lost its power and their properties were merged with the Cochin royal family. The daily pujas were disrupted as no one was in charge of the temple. The priest from the Chakkamkulangara Siva temple used to come with a lamp and some naivedyam to offer just one puja here. The local people then started bringing all the things necessary for the puja and requested the priest to perform a puja in the evening also. Even today offering the puja in the evening is considered very important at this temple. Around this time Sri. Rama Varma Thampuran, the King of Cochin (popularly known as the King who abdicated the throne) had a dream in which he was made to see the deplorable condition of the temple. The King then set apart 13 acres of land at Chalakudy for the temple. He repaired the temple and made provisions for the proper functioning of the temple.
