Eroor Pisharikovil Sree Bhagavathy Temple

History

Eroor Pisharikovil Sree Bhagavathy Temple is located in the vicinity of Tripunithura, within the Ernakulam district. The primary deity worshipped here is Goddess Durga, whose idol stands at approximately five and a half feet in height. The sanctum of the temple is oriented towards the east. On the northwestern corner of the temple, there is a sacred spot where the Goddess is believed to have manifested as a self-originated deity. The concluding aaraatt (ritual bath) during the temple's festival takes place at the pond of the Poornathryeesha temple in Tripunithura. Interestingly, there is a historical connection between the Poornathrayeesha temple and the Pisharikovil. There is a prevailing more belief that the Poornathrayeesha temple was constructed on land that originally belonged to the Pisharikovil. Another fascinating legend associated with this temple recounts how Goddess Durga was transported here from Mookambika by Ilambrathotath Aadyan Namboothiri. At present, the Eroor Pisharikovil Sree Bhagavathy Temple is under the auspices of the Cochin Devaswom Board.
