Eroor Sree Guru Maheshwara Temple

History

This temple is at Eroor in Ernakulam District. Sree Narayana Gurudevan used to travel around the country, spreading his words of wisdom among the people. It was on such a journey that he came to the house of Kappattikav Krishnan Vaidyar. He sat in mediation in the forest area on the northern side of the house. Around this time an epidemic spread across the land. When medicines failed to control the spread, some people approached Narayana Gurudevan who was at the Adwaita Ashramam at Alwaye. As advised by Guru, the people lighted lamps and burned incense at home and prayed for deliverance. They also went to more each of the houses singing bhajans and soon the epidemic was contained. After this incident, the local people made a thatched shed and started offering worship to a photograph of Gurudevan. Guruvaraasrama Sangham was registered in 1944. In 1978 after astrological consultations, Gurudevan and Lord Mahadeva were consecrated. It was then named Gurumaheswara Temple. The project with two sancta could be completed only in 1995. The idol of Gurudevan is made of panchaloha and that of Lord Mahadeva in krishnashila. Both the sancta face the west.
