The origin of this temple is connected with a Sanyasi who brought a Vel, the weapon of Lord Subrahmanya from Palani and kept it here. He started worshipping it. Some of the devotees of the area built a small prayer hall and worshipped the Vel. Later they bought some more land and rebuilt the Prayer hall as a temple. Now the temple came is managed by a registered society named Mangala Prashamsini Sabha.
