The Panniyoor Varaha Moorthy Temple is an ancient Hindu temple complex situated in the village of Kumbidi in the Palakkad district of Kerala, India. It is believed to be the first temple in Kerala consecrated by Parasurama nearly 4000 years ago. The temple houses Lord Varahamoorthy, who is the third avatar of Lord Vishnu, positioned alongside Goddess Bhumi after vanquishing Hiranyaksha. For approximately 3000 years since its establishment, the Panniyoor Varaha Moorthy Temple held the esteemed position of being the primary temple in Kerala. It also served as the supreme deity of Kerala for around 1300 years, spanning from 800 BC (during the Brahmanas' reign in Kerala)
more to 600AD (around the end of Perumakkal rule). The temple's historical significance in ancient Kerala is further corroborated by the recent discovery of stone engravings at Panniyoor that unveil the presence of an active organization known as 'Panniyuraayiram' 1200 years ago. This organization consisted of 1000 members dedicated to conducting various cultural and religious activities at the temple.
