This ancient temple is located at Chenganoor. It is believed to be one of the Pancha Pandava temples, consecrated by Yudhishtira, the eldest Pandava. Nammalvar, a Vaishnavie saint who lived in 3102 BC, has sung about the deity and the temple which shows how ancient this temple is. The main deity is Vishnu, consecrated in the standing position. It is considered unique as this idol is shown as holding the conch in the right hand instead of the discuss. The deity in a circular sanctum faces the east. Ganesha, Sastha and Goshalakrishna are consecrated as subordinate deities. The shrine of the Goshalakrishna is bigger than those
more of the others. All the ten incarnations of Vishnu as well as Maha Lakshmi as Chemkamalavalli Nachiyaar are believed to be present here. The temple pond is known as the Shankhu Theertha, the pond of the conch as Yudhishtira is believed to have taken the water from here in the conch for the consecration. So, worshipping the pond is considered as important as worshipping the idol. It is believed that the idol that is consecrated here was first worshipped by the Devas. Hence the Lord here is also known as Imayavarappan. According to the Divya Desham concept he is referred to as Devathideva Perumal. It is believed that Yudhishtira installed the idol here and did penance at this place for atoning the sin of uttering a lie in order to kill his master, Dronacharya in the battle. Now the temple is one of the Major temples under the Travancore Devaswom Board.
