Sree Raghava Puram Temple

History

Sree Raghava Puram Temple, also known as Hanumarambalam, is believed to have been constructed during the reign of the Mooshaka dynasty. Later, during his rule, Sree Udayavarma Kolathiri undertook the renovation of the temple. This temple has a history spanning 2,650 years. King Udayavarman of the Kolathiri dynasty, who had strained relations with the Kerala Brahmins of Perrinchelloor (Taliparamba), brought 237 Vitnanika Brahmin families from Gokarna and settled them in the Kolathiri kingdom. They came to be known as Sagaranmar and Anjudesa Brahmins. These Brahmins were also referred to as the "5 Desh Brahmins" because they resided in five different locations: Cheruthazham, Kulapram, Kunaru, Arathil, and Koram. In more each of these five places, separate temples were constructed, along with a common temple known as the Sree Raghavapuram Temple. These temples were documented in the Udayavarma Charithram, specifically in the "Kollarashtravarnnan" section. The administration of these temples was overseen by the Brahmin community, known as the Sree Raghavapuresha Sabha Yogam. Throughout history, various renowned spiritual scholars and wandering saints imparted teachings on Hindu philosophy within this sacred space.
