Sree Mannampurath Bhagavathy Temple

History

Sree Mannampurath Devi is quick to please and blesses all the devotees visiting the temple. Very near to Nileshwar railway station and bus stand there is a thick groove with numerous vines that gives a forest setting where Devi is seated. The main deity is Chandeswary and four other seats are also supposed and worshiped besides Bhadrakali. Weapons like Kargam and Nandakam also are worshipped. Main deity with eight hands is made of metal. North of the main shrine sits Bhadrakali, Bhairavi and Bhairava. Outside the shrine on the north is the seat of Kaikolan. A speciality of the temple more is a stone named Sathya Kallu(Truth Stone). Nobody dares to say a lie standing on this stone placed before Devi. Those who did lie faced severe consequences and difficulties as per stories which are abundant.  People are even sent from the police station and court to take oath standing on the stone. With the divinity and power goddess attracts more and more people to the temple even from outer states irrespective of caste and creed. Legend of theplace is related with an area chief Mannan who misruled the country and countrymen. All the people pleaded about the mismanagement to Thiruvarkattu Bhagavathy of Madayi near Pazhayangady. Devi acted through the priest and tried to correct Mannan but failed. Devi took all the powers from Mannan and expelled him from administration,Thus She  gained the name Mannampurath Bhagavathy. It is also believed that Sani Dhosa is reduced and relieved by Devi’s powers.  People from all places are coming to the temple to make offerings to the Devi and protect them from Sani evils. Poojas of the temple are done in Saktheya style by the Pidarar community. Nira during the month of Karkidaka, Puthari in the month Chingam, Vrichika Pattu is conducted for three days from Karthika star which is Devi’s birth star, Makara Pattu etc are celebrated. Temple festival is conducted from Karthika star to Pooram in the month of Meenam. Niramala, Valiya Guruthy,Valyapooja, Shathrusamhara Homam, Sakhthi Pooja, Kari Kalasam, Rakthapusphanjali,Pusphanjali, Kurumulak (BlackPepper) Nivedyam, Guruthy,  Thrimadhuram,Thanneelamruthu,Payasam, Thulabharam, Deeparathana , Malacharthal etc are the offerings of the temple. Special poojas of Mrityunjaya Homam which is usually done in Shiva temple also is done in this benevolent Devi temple. Kalasam festival is also celebrated in the month of Edavam. The temple is under the administration of H.R&C. E department and the day to day affairs are managed by the executive officer. Three hereditary trustees are also in the temple from the families of Eruvatt, Aramana and Pitarar.
