The Triprayar Temple is situated along the banks of the Theevra River, also known as Purayar. This sacred site derives its name, Thirupurayar, from this river's significance. Later, the name transformed into Triprayar. An intriguing legend surrounds the origins of this river. Lord Mahavishnu, during his Vamana incarnation, once graced this location on his journey to Thrikkakkara. He encountered a parched and desolate landscape, devoid of water to cleanse his feet. Using his kamandalu a small, rounded vessel carried by Hindu sages for water he poured water to wash his feet. Miraculously, this water source never ran dry and continued to flow as the Thiru Purayar more or Thriprayar, the river of divine origin, as it is known today. In addition to being called Purayar, the river is also referred to as Sreepriya and Nandiyar.
