The Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, over 5000 years old, is located in Edavetty near Thodupuzha, in the Idukki district of Kerala, India. In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Nakula was the fourth sibling among the five Pandava brothers. Nakula and Sahadeva were twins born to Madri, who had invoked the Ashwini Deva. Both Nakula and Sahadeva are referred to as Ashvineya, as they were born through the blessings of the Ashvinas. Nakula, with the blessings of Ashwini Deva, constructed this temple during the Pandavas' period of exile (Vanavaasa). The Ashwinas are believed to be the physicians of the Gods and the masters of Ayurveda. The temple more is enveloped by Oushadha Vana, a Forest of Medicinal Plants and Trees, along with four other Lord Krishna Temples built by the remaining Pandavas (known as Anchambalam in Malayalam). It is believed that Vana Durga guards this incredibly dense forest.
