Santhanagopalamoorthy Temple Krishanapuram

History

This ancient temple is at Aalangatt in Paravur thaluk. It belongs to the Perumthottat illam. The members of this family were the controllers of finance of the Alangatt princely state. The family used to stay at Veliyathnadu. After the invasion by Tippu Sutan and some natural disasters that affected the area, the family house and the temple were destroyed. Then they shifted to Kottapurath and built a house there. They consecrated their family deities in the temple built at this place. But that did not include the Santhanagopalamoorthy, whom they had been worshipping as consecrated in a temple. The eldest member of the family, Shekharan more Elauad had a dream in which the Lord asked him why they had not consecrated Him. Within three months arrangements were made to consecrate Santhanagopalamoorthy in a newly constructed temple at the place where the temple stands today. After the consecration Shekharan Elayad went to Kashi and did not come back. The land on which the temple stands, originally belonged to Swami Ayyappa and Goddess Bhadrakali. For the last 56 years the Ayyappan vilakk under the auspices of the Alangatt yogam has been celebrated here. In 2007 Lord Ayyappa was consecrated in a separate sanctum. Bhadrakali, Siva, Ganapathi, Nagas and Rakshass are the other subordinate deities.
