This temple is about 7km away from the town of Kollangode in Palakkad district. There are many legends about this temple and the idols consecrated here. The temple is between two famous rivers mentioned in the Puranas; the Ikshu River and the Gayathri River. Pictures from Ramayana adorn the wall of the sanctum. Only the idol of Mahavishnu can be seen when you stand in front of the door of the sanctum. The two Devis are hidden from view as they stand on either side of the Lord. Mirrors have been fixed to see the Devis. Whenever a Yaga is conducted in Kerala, the right
more to supply the Somalatha and the hide of the deer is vested in the Kollengode royal family who are believed to belong to the Surya Vamsha. These things can be given to the Brahmins only at this temple. One-sixth of the benefits of the Yaga will go to this royal family. It is believed that Sage Kashyapa was performing penance in the Govindamala. When Mahavishnu who was pleased with his penance appeared before him, the Sage asked him to remain in that mountain. The Lord asked the sage to build a temple between the two rivers for him. Kashyapa made Viswakarma build the idol of the Lord. The figure of the Lord seated in Ananthasana with Bhoomi Devi and Sree Devi on either side was given to Kashyapa by Viswakarma. The idols of Ganapathy, Nagasubrahmanya, Shasthavu and Siva were also given to him.
