more of Meenam. This temple that gives prosperity to the devotees has a very ancient legend. During the time of Emperor Samudra Gupta’s Digvijaya a king of a state happened to face defeat. This king who felt insulted happened to meditate upon Lord Mahadeva and left his country. After traveling a long way, he reached a place where the present temple is situated. At this place he met the Keeratha Moorthy, who told him that the place is full of Sivachaitanya. He realised that this tribal person is Lord Siva. Thus, he worshipped the Lord as Swayambhu Siva and settled here. The members of his family continued to live here for a thousand years. The kings who ruled late happened to fight one another and so there was no one to take care of the temple causing the destruction of the temple by fire. The temple has been reconstructed and consecrated.
