According to the legend of this place the same power residing at Rameswaram, which is known as Dakshina Kashi was brought here and installed. So, this place got the name Rameswaram. It is believed that the result of visiting both the places is the same. This temple is situated in the western side of Kochi in a village called Thoppumpady and is facing the sea. The main deity is Lord Siva who is facing the west. The people believe that He is easily pleased. The temple is prospering with the help of an elected committee and devotees of the place. In olden days the temple festival was conducted in Thiruvathira Star in the month of Medam for 8 days and the Aarattu took place in the sea. But now instead of the Aarattu there is Annadanam in the temple. The other celebrations are Sivarathri and Navarathri and every month during the Thiruvathira star there is the distribution of Prasadam. The main offerings are Dhara, Ganapathi Homam and Pizhinju Payasam. The thanthrics of this temple are Brahmasree Chennas Parameswaran Namboodiri and Brahmasree Chennas Narayanan Namboodiri.
