The history of Sree Thrippayya
Thrimoorthi Temple dates back many centuries. Kerala is a land of temples, and
in ancient times, there were only Kavs in this area. The large temple
structures came into existence later. Irinjalakuda was one of the centers of
cultural excellence known as gramams in ancient Kerala. The present-day Kerala
state comprises 64 such gramams. These gramams were owned, ruled, and run by
Kerala Brahmins called Namboodiris. The member families of the Irinjalakuda
gramam were Nagaramannu, Kavanad, Nandyarvally, and Ponallur. The collective
ownership (Ooraima) of these four families extended to this temple. Unfortunately,
Ponallur Illam is no longer in existence. The
more
first two families were renowned
for their Tantrika Vrithy during that time. The present managers of Thrippayya Devaswom
represent the descendants of these Ooraima families. The introduction of Land
Reforms Laws resulted in the main source of income for the temples upkeep being
discontinued, posing a challenge to its existence. This led to the
establishment of an organization called Thrippayya Kshethra Kshema Samithy in
1976. Representatives from various segments of the Hindu society formed this Samithy
to ensure the preservation and well-being of the temple.
