Irunilamkode is a small village located in the heart of Mullurkara Panchayath, just two kilometres away from Mullurkara Railway Station in Thrissur District, Kerala State. In close proximity to the main road stands an ancient temple, which is under the protection of the archaeological department of the Kerala government. This temple holds great fame in every aspect. The idol is intricately carved on a rock, positioned at the lower edge of a small hillock within a cave. This hillock extends over an area of more than 100 acres, composed of solid rock. For thousands of years, this temple remained unknown and unseen by the public. It was
more only about 300 years ago when some villagers accidentally discovered it. One rainy day, a woman who was working in the area sought shelter inside the cave. As she began sharpening her sickle, she noticed a red liquid on her fingertip. Alarmed, she checked for any signs of injury but found none. Filled with anxiety and curiosity, she examined the rock surface where she had sharpened her sickle. To her astonishment, she witnessed the liquid slowly dripping from the rock. Overwhelmed, she hurried to inform the villagers, her voice choked with emotion and tears streaming down her face. They immediately rushed to the spot, their hearts pounding with excitement. As they carefully observed the rock, they witnessed the continuous flow of the mysterious liquid. With great care, they started removing the bushes, grass, and creepers that had concealed the site. The presence of a divine power became undeniable. They were left stunned when they beheld the complete form of the deity. Some were overcome with ecstasy, offering their sincere reverence and heartfelt prayers to the Lord with folded hands.
