Haripad Subramanya Temple

History

Temple situates in Haripad of Alleppey District. Main deity is Subrahmanyan with chathurbahu (four hands). Deity was supposed to be Vishnu. Though now believed to be Velayudha the festival celebrated in the temple are for Lord Siva and Vishnu. Temple faces east with 5 poojas. For poojas Pulloor village man is a must and these priests were supposed to be Purappeda santhi (permanently resides in the temple) previously. Thantric is by Pulluvazhy who should present at the time of uchapooja. Shrine is round and thatched with copper plates. Sub deities are Dakshina moorthy, Ganapathy, Thiruvambady Krishnan and Sastha. The first festival is for Vishnu for more 10 days from Thiruvonam star of month Chingam with Aarattu. Another 10 days festival supposed to be for Lord Siva from Thiruvaathira of month Dhanu. 10 days festival for Subrahmanya from Vishu of Medam. The Kavadyaattam during Thyppooyam star of Month Makaram is very famous and supposed to be the biggest kavadies in Kerala. There will be more than 2000 kavadies participating in the dance performance.
