Pallippattu Kavil Bhagavathy Temple

History

An ancient temple at Desam about 5 km towards North from Aluva town. The temple belonged to a Nair family called 'Pallippat Nair'. A story behind this tells that this Pallippat Nair was a devotee of Godess Kodungalloor Bhagavathy. He often went to that temple for Bhajanam bare foot. At his old age it was very difficult for him to reach there every Monday. He prayed to the Goddess with folded hands and returned to his native village. On reaching Desam he rested his umbrella near a pond and went to the pond for drinking water. After the rest he more could not take the umbrella. He tried his best to pull out the umbrella but it was in vain. Thus, he realized the situation and conducted a 'Devaprasnam'. In the light of the 'Devaprasnam' a temple was constructed at the place where the umbrella remained stuck and the idol of Goddess Devi was installed there and the temple was known as 'Pallipattkavu Bhagavathy temple'. 'Punaprathishta' of the temple was conducted during 1961 and a new idol was installed there in the place of old one in the newly constructed Sreekovil. Now a committee of local people is administering the temple. Annually the committee is changed and election is being held in the General body meeting. The important festival of the temple is the 'Thalappoly in the Prathishta Dinam' ie. on 19 of Meenam (Malayalam era).  On that day rituals and ceremonies are held and a one-week Utsavam is celebrated in connection with that day. Another important feature of the temple is the 'Kalamezhuthum Pattum' conducted from Kumbham 1 of Malayalam era. About 4 months long Kalamezhuthum pattum is a special ceremony of this temple alone. It is being celebrated as a special offering of the devotees concerned. Another festival of the temple is the "Vithidal Thalappoly" on Makaram 26th of every year (Malayalam era) by the Harijan people of the locality. "Makara chowa" is another important festival of the temple. 'Prasada Oottu' is also done on that day. Besides 'Bharani oottu', Devi Bhagavada Navaha Yanjam etc are also conducted every year. Lots of devotees are coming to the temple from far and wide to make offerings and to worship the Godess. Now the temple has grown up to be a major once in the area.
