This temple is situated at Iringol near Perumbavoor town in Ernakulam district. This is a unique area as there are no other forest areas like this anywhere else in the country where a temple is situated. The temple is believed to be connected with the birth of Lord Krishna. As it had been forecast that the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudevar would kill him, Kamsa, the King had imprisoned them and killed all the seven children born to them. When the eighth child was born it was a girl. Still Kamsa raised the child above his head to dash it to death on more the floor. But the girl child rose from his hands and remained in the sky as an effulgence. It is believed that the Goddess touched earth at Iringol. Legends proclaim that the Devas who came to worship the Goddess at Iringol, remained there as trees. Hence the trees are not cut and even what has fallen down is not taken for any purpose by the people. There is also the belief that Sage Trinabindu was living in this forest when Hanuman tried to make fun of him by keeping an elephant and a lion at the door of his hut to frighten him. But the Sage knew who had done it and cursed Hanuman that he would forget his strength. But he also blessed the place by decreeing that no harm would come to the trees there and no one would be harmed by the animals that lived there. Today the temple is under the Travancore Devaswom Board.
