This temple is believed to be 500 years old. According to legends two old women who were returning after worshipping and making offerings at the Pookkottu Kalikavil temple rested at the spot where the temple is situated today. When they tried to takie the vessals they had brought with them for the offerings they were found stuck to the ground. The local people and the rulers were intimated about this strange phenomenon. On astrological consultation the effulgence of the Bhagavathy was seen at that spot. A smallsanctum was constructed there and later the larger temple building was constructed and the idol consecrated there. The devotees more of Meloor and Keezhoor support the temple with all their might.
