Velloorkunnam Mahadeva Temple, Muvattupuzha is
located on the North- East side of Ernakulam District of Kerala State situated
on the banks of Muvattupuzha River, meaning the place where three rivers unite
(Kaliyar, Kothayar and Thodup-uzhayar). The idol is in the form of Sadasiva
along with Parvathy and Ganapathi is similar to the Swayambhoo, selfmade,
naturally born. The deity is in the cheerful form showers blessings to his
devotees added with Prosperity, Sandha-nabagyam, Education and knowledge. Lord
Maheswara is the eliminator of all the worries. He gets easily pleased with
those who worship. The other deities in the temple are Lord Sree Krishna,
Ganapathi, Sree Dharmasastha, Bhadrakali,
more
Rekshas and Nagaprathishta.
Mrithyunjaya Homam performed in the temple gives longevity without disease,
peace of mind and aiswarya. The Annadanam (Giving free meals) on following
poojas such as Murajapom, Birthday of the deity and other auspicious days will
give blessings and brings prosperity to the devotees and his family. The Golden
Flag (Swarna Dwaja) is the main attraction of the temple. Velloorkunnam temple
is one of the halting stations for the pilgrims on their holy trip to
Sabarimala. The Mandala Season is observed here with due ceremonies. Without
considering caste or religion, people from different parts of the country come
here to worship Mahadeva. It is believed that Lord Siva and Parvathi used to give
Darshan to people sitting on an elephant. Both Parvathi and Sivan are given
equal importance here. Mrithyunjaya Homam, Sahasra Kalasam, Dhara, Bhagya
Sooktham, Mrithyunjaya Pushpanjali, Purusha- suktam, Kadumpayasam etc are the
important offerings. Mondays, Saturdays and Pradosha days are important here.
