This temple is situated at Arookutty, lying between Kaithapuzha lake and Venmbanad lake. This was a famous place of worship even during the rule of the King of Travancore. The Goddess is consecrated as Bhadrakali here. Legends speak about how the King of Ambalapuzha wanted to build a Devi temple near his palace. He got the beautiful idol of the Goddess made at the palace at Kodungaloor. When he was bringing the idol to Ambalapuzha by boat, there was a heavy wind at the point where Kaithapuzha lake and Vembanad lake met. The boat struck the granite stone that had been erected to mark the more boundary between Travancore and Kochi. The idol fell into the water and in spite of all efforts it could not be taken out of the water. Years later a young man got the idol from the lake and the local people constructed a temple and consecrated the idol there. The temple had to be renovated and the efforts for that concluded in March 2023.
