Sreekrishna Temple Kunanthumedu

History

This temple in Kunnathumedu, Palakkad was established in 1951 by Rao Bahadur P.I.Chinnaswamy Pilli, the first chairman of the Palakkad Muncipality. Though Pillai’s forefathers had migrated from Thirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, the temple was constructed as per the Kerala architectural style. He constructed this temple to protect his people from Brahmarakshas. Pooja for Brahmarakshas on Amavasya (No moon day) has been going on for more than a century. The Lord Siva temple in Harikkara street, now known as Rajapattanam Siva temple, had been constructed by Pillai’s forefathers in the 19th century. In 2009 a Thaamboola prashnam was conducted there. According to the instructions received after that a more Nilavilakku was to be lighted separately for Lord Siva in the Sree Krishna Swamy temple. Devotees were to worship Lord Siva there and visit the Siva temple now and then. Namaskara mandapam and Nalambalam were constructed and Kodimaram was erected within a year of the consecration. The temple is maintained by the members of the founder’s family.
