Many archaeological evidences like very old clay pots have been dugout from here. Several historical events remain even today as stories and beliefs in the unrecorded history. The temple and its surroundings spread in about 4 acres. Aanappallamathil, the great tower, large Oottupuras, Balikkalpura and Koothambala existed once. The bare basements are seen now. On the circular sanctorum made of rock, one could see stone – sculptures, statues of Dwarapalakas, Scriptures. All these speak not only of the ancestory but also of the history of the temple. The well of this temple, which once stood on hill surrounded by fields, is always abundant with water even in hard summer. The Universal Incarnation of Mahavishnu is the main idol. Facing the main idol on the south west pillar in the Mandapa, there is the presence of the Great Hanuman. The myth goes like this: Sree Hanuman, who attained Sreekrishna darsanam in the Dwaparayuga, once had a doubt whether Lord Sreekrishna was as great as Sree Rama. To clear his doubt, Mahavishnu appeared in the form of Sree Rama as well as Sreekrishna. It is believed that Hanuman got this rare chance in this holy land. Hanuman stood in full devotion transforming himself into a tiny figure. He has this posture here. The presence of Hanuman in this temple is recognized by the great Villwamangalam Swami. After making a pilgrimage to the North, he came to pass along this place to reach Puthenchira, his native place. On his way, he felt the Godly presence above his umbrealla. He kept his Umbrella down and prayed. He was very much excited to see the faithfull devotee of Sree Rama – Sree Hanuman. He enquired whether there was any temple nearby. Then he saw a temple far away. Soon he reached there, kept his umbrella in the Mandapa and prostrated himself before Mahavishnu. He got up and tried to take his umbrella. It was quite impossible as it was stuck on to the floor. He realised the truth and invoked that divinely power onto the pillar in the Mandapa. This is how the Alathur Hanuman got his origin. The Place where he kept his umbrella came to be called as Kudakuthukunnu even today. The conservatives believe that there will be Hanuman presence on the head side of the children while they sleep. Buy worshiping Hanuman, we could keep ourselves from all evils like nightmares especially that of children, illness, poverty, mental uneasiness and attain all virtues, health and prosperous long life. Saturn could not affect Hanuman devotees. Conducting musical bhajans will empower our voice. Sree Dharmasastha along with prabha and sathyaka is another feature of this temple. Yet another noticeable feature is that Sree Sudarsana Moorthy is worshipped with equal importance as that of Sree Mahavishnu. The presence of Garuda and Adisesha in invisible form is believed to exist here. The idols of Sree Rama, Bharatha, Lakshmana and Sathrughna which were adored by Sree Krishna during the Dwapara period are installed and consecrated at Thriprayar, Irinjalakuda, Moozhikulam and Payammel temples respectively.
