History

The temple belonging to the GSB community of Kasaragod was originally consecrated in 1772 and subsequently in 1905, the then Pontiff of Sri Kashi Mutt Samsthan Sri. Sri. Varadendra Thirtha Swamier conducted the reinstallation of the presiding deity, Sri Varadaraja Venkatramana along with the "Parivara Devas" such as Sri Hanuman, Sri Garuda, Sri Ganapathi and Sri Laxmi. A Rama Nama Likhita japa yajna was held here in 1967. To commemorate the same a temple devoted to Sri Rama-Laxman-Sita-Hanuman was built and consecrated outside the precinct of the main temple in 1985. One of the important Annual Festivals at the temple is "Sankeerthana Sapthaha" (held in the month more of December) when 7 days of Non-stop Bhajan chanting is conducted. The west-facing temple is situated less than a furlong from the local Railway station on the banks of river Payaswani which flows parallel to the roaring Arabian Sea and offers an enchanting and panoramic view to the visitor. In April 2005 the temple celebrated the centenary of consecration of the presiding deity when week-long celebrations/Vedic rituals were held under the leadership of Sri Sri Sudhindra Thirtha Swamier of Kashi mutt.
