It is believed that Paravoor Puttingal Devi temple was established around 500 years ago. The temple that was in existence before the renovation was about 420 years old. The temple is at Paravoor, a coastal town in Kollam district. The name Puttingal comes from the fact that the presence of the goddess was seen in an anthill which in Malayalam is called “Puttu”. The temple festival in the month of Makaram is famous for the fireworks display in a competitive spirit and various cultural programmes.
