Kannaki (the lady from Tamilnadu who killed King Pandya) in her ferocious stage after killing King Pandya went to Kodungalloor and settled there. While going to Kodungalloor she rested in many places and all those sacred places became famous and great temples were installed in these places. On her way, she took a rest in Mukkolackal also. While she was in Mukkolackal, her ferocity reduced. She became quiet and the idol is filled with calmness. The main festival is 'Uruttulsav' attached to 'Meena Bharani and also known as Meena Bharani Utsav. The Festival starts on Thiruvonam star of the month 'Meenam'. Special
more poojas while singing the main parts of 'Bhadrakali pattu' (pattu= song) including 'Ottam Nirthal' (halting the run) "Malappuram (functions of Devi's wedding in imagination) and Palakanethottal' (revival of Palakan) etc are very important. On the 6th day of Revathy star Devi's idol is taken on an elephant and Parackezhunellippu (procession for taking para (a measure) known as "Ooru Pradakshinam" is celebrated. After receiving the offerings from the disciples Devi returns by noon to the temple. Temple and all the nearby places will be in a festival mood. Old people hence say that 'Attukal Ponkala and Mukkokckal Parackezhunellathu are the major events here. Devi proceeds in a solemn way (Ezhunelluka) to their houses and devotees joyfully offer paddy full of para (Nelpara) to her. Usually in some temple paddy used in one para is repeatedly used in other houses also, but in this temple, it is not used again.
