This ancient temple is in the Palaghat district. All three major powers Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara are consecrated together here and it is a very rare occurrence. Legend says that the three gods appeared before Anasooya, wife of Sage Athri, to test her. They insisted that she should be naked when she offered puja and food to them. Anasooya asked for one condition to which the Gods agreed. She requested them to be newborn babies and she fed them. At this time the consorts of the three Gods came in search of them. They too fondled the babies. The Gods and the Goddesses were pleased with
more Anasooya and blessed her before disappearing. It is said that the self-originated idol was formed at the point and Sage Athri worshipped the Gods as babies. Later a woman was cutting the grass when her sickle touched a stone and it started oozing blood. The woman felt unconscious and people tried to revive her she started speaking strangely. She spoke about installing her in the temple. So, a place was found to install the presence of the woman outside the temple and puja was offered to her on certain days. As the deities are worshipped in the form of children, couples who do not have children come here to pray to the deities to be blessed with children. The temple conducts Sreebhoothabali, Utsavabali and Gramabali to please the unseen protectors of the land to ensure prosperity and well-being for the whole place. This is also the only temple where Jayabali is performed today. When Malabar was a part of the Madras state, Maathoor and Muthirikodu manas had ownership of the temple. Now it is under the Malabar Devaswom Board.
