Pattupurayckal Bhagavathy Temple

History

Pattupurakkal Bhagavathy temple is situated at Kaloor in Ernakulam. It was under the Adigal who were the owners of the Kodungaloor Devi temple in ancient times. When they found it difficult to manage the temple, it remained neglected for a long time. The local people found many mishaps in the locality due to the neglected temple. They tried reviving the pujas but could not continue for long because of financial restraints. The NSS Karayogam tried to re-establish the rituals but they too could not succeed fully. The Karayogam then approached the Sree more Ramadasa Mission at Chengottukonam in Thiruvananthapuram. Sree Sathyaananda Saraswathy Swami, the head of the Mission, l agreed to take over the temple and deputed Sree Sathyaananda Theerthapada Swami to be in charge of the temple. Under Swami’s able guidance, the temple has progressed and is today the source of mental peace and solace to many devotees. The Devi here contains the power of the Goddess at Kodungalloor. The gentle and the fierce forms of the Goddess are consecrated together. But the devotees see the Goddess as the epitome of gentleness. The temple conducted the very rare Navachandika Yagam in 2011.
