Valiya Udeswaram Mahadeva Temple

History

Lord Mahadeva, the chief deity of this temple is believed to have been consecrated by Parasurama. The Siva Linga is consecrated in a round sanctum. As the Lord is in meditation, there is no consecration of Sree Prvathy in this temple. Ganapathy, Dharmashasthaavu, Chatayappan, Veerarakshass and Brahmarakshas are the sub-deities. The serpents are consecrated near the temple pond. According to the legends, the bodily remains of a Maharshi had been buried here. The Siva Linga is consecrated above the buried body. The older generation here remembers that the wall made of white stone was much higher than what it is today. The temple became famous more during the reign of Maharaja Marthandavarma.
