Mullassery Sree Mahavishnu Temple

History

This temple is in the village of Veyiloor in Thiruvananthapuram district. The main deity is Lord Maha Vishnu. Ganapathy, Durga Devi, Brahmarakshass, and the Nagas are consecrated as subordinate deities. Hundreds of years ago, this temple was near the fields owned by Brahmins. Once, when parrots were eating the grain from the field, one irate farmer asked the lord why he could not chase the birds away and threw a stone. The stone hit the idol, and one of the hands broke. Blood started oozing out. After that, people started worshipping the Lord in that idol with great belief. In astrological consultations, it was more seen that the idol should not be changed and the consecration should not be shifted from there. So, an Angi, a metal covering, is kept over the idol. The temple is under the Travancore Devaswam Board. The main festivals are in connection with Makara Rohini, Meda Vishu and Sree Krishna Jayanthi.
