Chittakkattu Sree Bhadrakali Temple, Ayikunnam, located on the Kakkakunnu - Kozhimukku Road in Ayikunnam, Kollam district, is a historic and revered temple dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, worshipped as Shaktiswarupini and Ishtavaradaini, the divine embodiment of supreme power and the benevolent fulfiller of devotees’ wishes. The temple is renowned for its spiritually significant Thirunal Mahotsavam, celebrated for ten days during the Malayalam month of Kumbham, beginning with Trikkodiyettu and culminating in Thiru Aarattu. The celebrations include special poojas, Bhagavatham recitation, Annadanam, Utsavabali, and a variety of traditional artistic performances. Devotees from different communities and faiths participate in the festivities, making the Thirunal Mahotsavam a vibrant celebration of communal harmony and more shared devotion. The temple observes its annual Ulsavam and Prathishtadinam for ten days during Meenam–Makayiram, along with Navaratri celebrations. Special Kali Pooja is conducted every Tuesday, while the distinctive Naranga Vilakku (Lemon Lamp Pooja) is held on the first and third Sundays of every Malayalam month from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. This unique offering, traditionally associated with the alleviation of Rahu Dosha, involves lighting a lamp using a lemon-shaped receptacle filled with ghee or oil and offering it to the Goddess. The temple also has shrines dedicated to Bhramarakshas, Nagaraja, Yashiyamma, Madaswamy, and Moorthy, further enriching its spiritual traditions and cultural heritage.
