Muhamma Thottathusseril Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is at Aryakara, Kanjikuzhi in Alapuzha district. A youth belonging to the Kshathriya family of Pandavan Kulangara, in Kottayam, was an ardent devotee of Kodungaloor Bhagavathy. He went on a journey by boat with his family deity at the time of the invasion by Tippu Sultan in the 18 th century. He tied the boat to the western bank and consecrated his idol under a Pala tree. Later, he built a temple and worshipped his deity. Later, this place, known as Kayippuram, became the seat of art and culture. The Kottaram where Aiswarya Gandharvan and more Yakshiyamma were consecrated became a Sanskrit school. The Gurunathan Kalappura, where the mortal remains of Sree Narayana Gurudevan are kept, is also in this place. The family preceptor is also consecrated in this house. An elderly man of this family happened to see a serpent in the Vembanadu lake. He felt that there was something special about it and brought it ashore. This was the magical Neelakoduveli, which had medicinal qualities. The family used to give this to people who had been bitten by poisonous snakes and save them.
