History

Kandattukavu Sree Bhadrakali Temple. This temple is near the Kuruppanthara railway station in Manjoor in Kottayam district. The temple is under the Mattappilly Mana of Iravimangalam Kara. It is believed to be more than 800 years old. The main deity consecrated here is Bhadrakali facing the north with the effulgence of Kodungaloor Bhagavathy. It is believed that the power of Kandattukavilamma is consecrated at the Mattapilly Mana. So even today the Goddess is taken from there with Thalapoly on the day of Bharani for Kalamezhuthum pattum held for twentyone days during the festival of Makara Bharani. On the more day of Bharani, Mutiyettu and Garudan thookkam are conducted at the temple. Bhadrakali, facing the east, is consecrated as a subordinate deity. There are Sivan, Shasthav, Bhuvaneswari, Nagayakshy, Nagaraja, and Velichappatu also as subordinate deities. Devotees following the essential etiquette for temple visits can come to worship at this temple irrespective of caste or creed.
