This temple is at Parassala, near the southern border of Kerala. It is believed to be centuries old. Mooryankara, formerly known as Murukan kara, had to suffer the spread of dreaded diseases like smallpox and cholera. As many people died of these, the King of Venad called the experts to suggest a remedy. The astrologers thought that the effulgence of Kodungalur Bhagavathy must be consecrated there. So the King established 18 Elankams (training centres). One of them was at Mooryankara under the local landlords. When Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma was ruling Venad, he ordered the destruction of all more the temples under the landlords. The landlords of Mooryankara hid all the gold ornaments of the goddess in a well in the field and committed suicide there. That well is seen near the temple even today. The soldiers who came to destroy the temple had to withdraw as they could not withstand the fury of the goddess. After the declaration of the right for all to worship in the temple, this temple came to be under the Devaswam Board. A new sanctum and temple were constructed. In 1977, the consecration of Sree Bhuvaneswari Devi, combining the powers of Sree Bhadrakali and Sree Durga, was completed. The Goddess is seen with four hands carrying pasham, angusham and showing abhayam and varadam. Pongala in connection with Kumbha Bharani celebrations here is famous, in which women of all castes and creeds participate. Ganapathy, Subrahmanyan and Nagas are consecrated as subordinate deities. Many devotees visit this temple on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
