This area of Kuravan kunnu was dense forest at one time, and the presence of Goddess Bhadrakali could be felt everywhere in it. The Chirakkal Kavu Devi temple and the Narasimha Swamy temple were under three Namboothiri illams in those days. Later, they came to be under Thuruthy illam, one of the three. The effulgence of the Devi was consecrated in the Bahubera form, facing the Chirakkal lake. The original position of the Goddess is supposed to be on the Choorikkalkallu, and hence devotees pray facing the Kuravan kunnu also after worshipping the Goddess.
