Sree Pakalkury Mahavishnu Temple

History

This temple is at the northern border of Thiruvananthapuram district. It is one of the few that face the west. It must have been built in 8 CE or before that. This is based on the fact that temples of stone and wood were built in Kerala from the 8th century onwards. There is a plaque at the Balikalpura of the temple which states that the temple was built by Thithiyan. It must be Thithiyan, famously known as Pothiyil Chovvan of the Aay royal house, which was prominent in Kerala and Tamil Nadu till the 12th century. As Thithiyan ruled more before 8 C.E, the temple also must have been built before that time.
