Pulimukhath Devi was at one time the family
deity of a Brahmin family named Vainthamangalam mana. They were originally from
the north of Kerala and had to leave the place due to communal disturbances.
They had brought their family deity also along with them. They settled down at
Pulimukham at Cheriyanad in Chenganoor and consecrated the deity also there. Years
later, they converted to Thazhava and built a temple for the Goddess there. As
she had been first consecrated at Pulimukham the new temple came to be referred
to as Pulimukhath Sree Bhadra Bhagavathy temple
