Meloott
Sree Muthappan Madappura is a revered place of worship located at Illathaazha
on the Thalassery - Kodiyeri Road, Pallithazhe, Thalassery, in Kannur district,
Kerala. Madappura is dedicated to Sree Muthappan, the widely worshipped folk
deity of North Kerala, who is revered as the embodiment of both Lord Siva and
Lord Vishnu and is believed to bless devotees with prosperity, protection, and
good health. In addition to the presiding deity, the sacred shrine also has
Gulikanthara, Bhagavathy Sthanam, and Guru Sthanam, where devotees offer
prayers seeking divine grace and spiritual well-being. The
more
temple follows the
traditional rituals and customs associated with Muthappan worship and attracts
a large number of devotees throughout the year. The annual Prathishta Dinam is
celebrated on 10th July (calendar month) with special poojas and devotional
programmes. Another major festival is the three-day Thuruvappana Maholsavam,
observed during the Malayalam month of Dhanu, featuring traditional
Thuruvappana, Vellattam, cultural programmes, and special offerings. In
addition, Vellattu, the sacred ritual performance associated with Sree
Muthappan worship, is conducted on every Sankramam day of the Malayalam month,
drawing devotees who come to seek the blessings of Sree Muthappan in an atmosphere
of deep faith and devotion.
