This ancient temple is at Thrithallur in Vadanappally
of Thrissur district. It is believed to be more than a thousand years old.
Legends say that in ancient times, the area where the temple stands was
paddy fields. Once, a woman sharpened her sickle on a stone, and the stone
started bleeding. The woman ran away, and the stone went down into a hole. The
owners of the land held an astrological consultation, and it was found that the
effulgence of Lord Siva was present there. So, a temple was built there. The
sanctum is like a well, and the effulgence is inside it. What
more
we see is the idol
consecrated by connecting it to the bottom with a golden thread. During the
rainy season, the sanctum will be filled with underground water. Sivarathri is
the main festival which is celebrated for five days. The day of star Rohini in
the month of Edavam is celebrated as the consecration day. People also gather
here for offering Bali in Karkidakam. The temple is under the Malabar Devaswam
Board.
